June 2 to September 29 at Macaulay Village Park, 4-6 PM
The Department of Illumination’s long-running program, The Art Kitchen, returns this spring to Macaulay Village Park on London Avenue, Picton (The Heights). All are welcome to this free drop-in program every Monday from June 2 to September 29. The Art Kitchen runs from 4 to 6 PM and is a welcoming space for artistic expression, healthy snacks and community building. Participants are invited to bring a creative project to work on or make use of the art supplies on hand. Don’t know what to work on? The DOI’s team of artists are happy to guide participants through a project. This is an all-ages group, and kids and teens are most welcome!

The Art Kitchen has been running at the park on the Heights for the last two years, run by Nella Casson and Sharon Hart. “I love The Art Kitchen because it’s wonderful to see kids and families spending time together, off their screens and getting creative,” says Casson. “Neighbours get to know each other, we share snacks and stories… it’s amazing what can happen when you provide a few supplies and a safe and welcoming environment.”
The Art Kitchen is made possible thanks to The Vital Impact Fund, administered by The County Foundation. This grant is also paying for free books for children and youth from County Kids Read, which can be picked up from The Art Kitchen all summer long.

The Department of Illumination is a not-for-profit organization, founded in 2013 by a group of artists in Prince Edward County. They aim to bring joy and creativity to the community by producing festivals, workshops, and other artistic events. This company of artists weaves creativity into the fabric of their community, bringing people together for shared experiences of wonder and beauty. They strive to be a cultural leader, demonstrating excellence and innovation in rural arts.
