Covid and attendent post covid anxiety took a toll on many smaller intimate venues which were particularly suitable for performances by emerging artists. Regular readers will know that the promotion of the joys of live music is a core theme of this magazine and a personal passion of its editor. When we learned that St. Paul’s Church had recently been refurbished and equipped as a performance space, we couldn’t resist the temptation to put our money where our mouth is, and host our very first concert on Sunday 1st June. Tracey and I and the Grapevine Magazine team look forward to meeting you there.
Administrator of Musical Performance at St. Paul’s, Jonah McLean, will be hosting a weekly open mic event called, “The Warkworth Kitchen Party,” from Wednesday April 2nd. Jonah invites musicians to bring their acoustic instruments to the Gathering Place, downstairs at St. Paul’s and play a couple songs, or just hangout with good company. There is a cash bar. The Warkworth Kitchen Party starts at 6pm and will run every Wednesday until further notice. For more information please don’t hesitate to contact Jonah McLean at jonahmaclean417@gmail.com, especially if you are a touring musician or band looking for somewhere to perform.

Show Description. Led by Global Music Award winning jazz pianist NICK MACLEAN, SNAGGLE is an electric-jazz-funk ensemble often described in the media as “Canada’s answer to Snarky Puppy.” The group features as its frontline the all-star horn duo BROWNMAN and MARCUS ALI alongside some of the Toronto’s top-tier electric jazz players: JAY YOO on guitar, MATT GRUEBNER on bass, and ADAM MANSFIELD on drums. Their all-original repertoire has been likened to a cross between electric-era Miles Davis and Rage Against the Machine, that swings from quietly contemplative all the way to explosively fierce – sometimes all within the same tune. Not a group to be missed!
